Some interaction is rooted in familiarity. What could be more everyday than the trip to the coffee machine. Etna asked us to design a new departure for their industrial coffee machines. We introduced a programmable internet connected touch screen that opened new opportunities in product placement and user involvement.
Rather than merely cramming functionality onto a touch screen, we realised that there needed to be more of a dialogue between the user and the system.
After several false starts the coffee division of ETNA was closed in the Netherlands and this project was stillborn. However, we learned a lot and really enjoyed it.
