Philips iSite PACS is a leading medical image and information management system. Diagnostic quality images usually need to be viewed on high resolution monitors, but radiologists often need to reference images outside of the conventional viewing environment.
FLO interactive worked with Philips Healthcare in the design and realisation of a ‘portable’ image viewer.
Originally available as part of the IntelliSpace PACS Enterprise 4.4 system, and still supported.

Context
The high resolution needed to view diagnostic images had traditionally confined Radiologists to their workstations. Whilst to a large extent it is still the case, with the improvements in resolution offered by portable devices, the opportunity was seized to expand the viewing experience.
Native to its parent PACS and HTML5 based, the viewer was able to overcome many previously limiting factors, such as set-up, permissions and audit trails. A much wider range of users were enabled, given access to patient exams and diagnostic reports, and were able to take advantage of rich workflow and communication channels.
Impact
Zero footprint (HTML5), has meant that the Anywhere application can be accessed by any device and by a wide range of users. Its open architecture has ensured a scalable aplication that can respond to the demands of a hospital or clinic. As part of the Intellispace PACS enterprise system the Anywhere viewer enhances Radiology workflow, resulting in better efficiency and effectiveness.
We continue our association with Philips, and collaborate in many areas, particularly in Healthcare Research.
“I had the pleasure to work with Guy Roberts from FLO Interactive on a novel user experience for a viewing application for medical images.
Guy brought his many years of experience in graphical and interaction design to the team and surprised with creative ideas while always delivering timely results. He showed himself as a flexible team player in an highly dynamic environment with frequently changing requirements.
The final product is one to be proud of: top-notch design in a new design language and a pleasure to use.”

A steep learning curve, and a demanding community of users created a lively debate around functionality and familiarity.
We would love to hear about your project, let's have a cup of coffee and connect.
