Following on from success in the field of Proton Beam Therapy, FLO formed a partnership with ICT to address the needs of Oncology teams, where the complexities of workflow and work load require careful and coordinated planning.
Working directly with specialists from the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston we conducted a thorough analysis of the overlapping workflow of the many specialists within a team, and then designed and developed a planning and collaboration tool to improve overview and efficiency.

Context
Broadly speaking a typical radiation process has identifiable steps, but these steps are often compromised by a lack of collaboration and action on the part of the oncology team. A shared view of the care path and the progress of the patient is a critical element of effective intervention.FLO interactive identified the ‘progress track’ of the patient as the key to collaboration, and designed a tool that adapted to the needs of the many stakeholders involved. Incorporating both traditional and digital data points, with an intelligent alert and notification system, the timeline of the patients progress is brought into sharp focus in a simple and effective manner.
impact
One of our primary objectives for the design was to achieve what we call ‘glance-ability’. That a specialist would be able to see the progress of the patient at a glance, and his or her required action. Simple, yet many existing systems try to provide as much detail about the patient on one screen as possible, at the expense of the key action required of the specialist. By prioritising and layering information, incredibly busy workflow can be contextualised to differing users and efficiently managed.
“FLO really elevated the level of workflow and data-management systems used in a radiotherapy environment.
The user experience was received in the field extremely positively - perceived as simple, clean, and extremely efficient while still adhering to medical device standards.
The powerful design provides all the information the user needs to know at a single glance while clean and easy to use on the other hand, this in contrast with most comparable workflow systems in the field
Working with FLO helped ICT to develop the solution, to deliver a strong market tool, and to support our vision”
